halloween mini launch! my first stationery collection

it’s finally that time of year! the transition from summer into the cooler, autumn atmosphere. when pumpkins start to align the neighborhood stoops. it’s the ghosties favorite time of year because they finally get to be seen! and in celebration for this fleeting season, i decided to create my firs stationery launch.

when i started this new adventure of creating and designing my own stationery, i really didn’t have any concrete plans besides the mail club and some one-off releases here and there. i enjoyed being fluid with my creations. as a small, independent artist and designer, i value my autonomy and the freedom to create whatever i want, whenever i want. so basically, i didn’t really have any grand plans of making big collections or stationery launches. i just wanted to make things that didn’t exist in the world. things i would actually use in my own journals. and in turn, share that joy with others who might want it too.

this time last year, i created a 40 page halloween zine that focused on my nostalgia of growing up in the 90’s. it was my biggest project to date and i really felt like i didn’t have the bandwidth to do anything else (back when i had a full-time job…) this time around, i wanted to shift my focus on creating stickers. for whatever reason, i find it difficult to find halloween stickers and stationery that align with my journaling aesthetics. i’m not even really sure what to call my own aesthetic. something that’s cutesy but moody? pastel and colorful but subtle. i don’t really know how to describe it because it honestly sounds like a contradiction, but i hope it shows through in my designs.

the first design i created was this little wizard ghosty sticker.

i thought it would be funny to give the star part of the wand some personality. he’s like (in a french accent) “i hate my job”. maybe it’s only funny to me okay. but i just liked the contrast of how cute and innocent our little ghosty is and how sassy the star is.

i wanted my first collection to be fun and in a way, nostalgic. whenever i think of greens and purples, i think of 90’s nickelodeon. and although i love the campy 90’s colors, it can sometimes make my brain hurt lol. so finding the perfect shade of greens and purples was kind of a challenge. i’m also very particular when it comes to picking colors for my stationery. i wanted it to feel bright and fun but also soothing in a way. calming.

i also added two new products that are, admittedly, not really related to autumn or halloween, but i did add it to the falloween section of my shop since they’re new too. i didn’t want them to get lost in the sauce of everything else as i really loved the way these designs came out.

and i mean, they’re cozy!

this was also my first attempt at creating notepads! these ones had to be outsourced because i have a hard time cutting straight lines and there’s no way i’d survive creating my own notepads. but as i grow and expand my stationery line, i definitely want to introduce more products beyond just stickers. i think it’s safe to say that there will be more notepad designs in the future.

i truly had such a great time designing this collection and i hope that it brings you as much joy as it brought me to make them.

take care friends ~

lora
